SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Ron began his career at Gallaudet in the late 1970's, where he worked on several large projects that allowed him to travel to state schools for the Deaf and videotape teachers in their classrooms. He was privileged to work with many of Gallaudet's leading researchers of that time, including Dr. William Stokoe, Dr. Orin Cornett and Dr. Kay Meadows-Orleans. In the early 1980's, Ron transferred to Gallaudet's Television Department as a Production Specialist and eventually became Director of Television in the early 1990's.

Gallaudet's magazine program, Deaf Mosaic, was produced during Ron's tenure in the Television Department, and he was one of its' principal videographers. Taping stories for Deaf Mosaic took Ron to many of the lower 48 states, in addition to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. For Deaf Mosaic, Ron videotaped everything from a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans to the New York skyline from the top of the World Trade Center to the shores of Waikiki Beach in Honolulu to a small town parade on the 4th of July in Seward, Alaska. He videotaped the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act by President George H. W. Bush at the White House, and the arrival of the Olympic Torch at the White House, carried by Gallaudet President I. King Jordan. He taped an interview with Miss America, Heather Whitestone, in Washington, D.C., and an interview with Miss Deaf America, Patty Brennan, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Seeing the country thru the lens of a camera and meeting so many wonderful people was a tremendous experience. He also directed the Opening Night Performances of Deaf Way I at Lisner Auditorium in 1988, and Deaf Way II at the Washington D.C. Convention Center in 2002.

Ron has been recognized and honored for his work by several organizations, including CINE, CINDY, CASE and The Videographer Awards. The Deaf Mosaic program he videotaped in Alaska received a Regional Emmy Award from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

In addition to his work at Gallaudet, Ron was the videographer for a project published by Yale University Press, titled Conversations with Native Speakers. Taping for this project took Ron to Italy, France, Spain, Mexico and Japan. This was another wonderful opportunity to see the world and meet some very interesting people.

Ron was raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, and a Master's degree in Educational Technology from Gallaudet University. He currently lives in Riva, Maryland.
